Paralegal Mel Brown Receives Doug Peters Lifetime Achievement Award

The Yakima Greenway Foundation Board of Directors recently awarded Stokes Lawrence Velikanje Moore & Shore Paralegal Melanie Brown the Doug Peters Lifetime Achievement award.

The award is named after Doug Peters, a Yakima attorney and community volunteer who was deeply involved in the formation of the Yakima Greenway Foundation in 1980.

Mel is the fourth person to receive the award, which is the highest recognition bestowed by the Greenway upon people who commit and extraordinary effort to make the Yakima community a better place to live.

A statement issued by the Greenway noted that “For over 20 years, Melanie has been a tireless volunteer for the Greenway. Having chaired the Junior Gap 2 Gap relay race for several years, to countless hours volunteering at other Greenway events . . . Melanie has tirelessly worked the registration and information booth for nearly all Greenway events. When not volunteering for Greenway Foundation events, she has also staffed an aid station for 17 years  at the Canyon Marathon.” She also volunteers her time to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

In 2004, Mel received the Volunteer of the Year award for her work.

The Greenway statement added, “The Greenway thanks her for her hundreds of hours annually to make Yakima a much better place to live and enjoy all the Greenway contributes to outdoor recreation activities.”
